Men's cardigan with authentic Aran patterns, hand-knitted for the family-run Scottish factory Inverallan.
Hand-knitted items from Inverallan are noticeably different from more common machine-knitted items in that their structure is much denser, and the items themselves are very massive and heavy, like full-fledged outerwear.
This is approximately how the knitted clothes of fishermen and other inhabitants of the coast of Ireland and Scotland in the 19th and early 20th centuries looked and felt.
A cotton cardigan warms and gives a feeling of comfort, but at the same time it is not as hot as a woolen one. It is comfortable to wear for a long time both outside in warm autumn and cool spring, and in a cool room.
The weight of a cardigan of size L is about 1.8 kg.
The cardigan is knitted from first-class cotton, dyed with indigo using rope dyeing technology. This difficult technology appeared in the early 20th century and produces moderately deep dyed yarn that will beautifully change color over time (what denim lovers call fading), similar to the best examples of Japanese and American jeans.
IMPORTANT!
Please note that the cardigan will change color beautifully over time, like a good pair of jeans. Also, with prolonged contact, it may slightly stain white clothing, furniture or car upholstery. This is not a disadvantage, it is a feature of dyeing cotton with indigo.
The buttons are made of olive wood.
Inverallan's production is divided between their own factory in Alloa, just north of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and one of the best hand-knitting factories in India, with good working conditions and a responsible attitude to the environment.
Suitable for both men and women.
