A classic ribbed hat, hand-knitted for the family-run Scottish factory Inverallan.
Hand-knitted items from Inverallan are noticeably different from the more common machine-knitted items in that their structure is much denser, and the items themselves are more substantial.
This is roughly what the knitted clothes of fishermen and other inhabitants of the coast of Ireland and Scotland looked and felt like in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The hat is knitted from Aran yarn made in England. The peculiarity of Aran yarn is that it does not go through the combing process, and this makes it more voluminous and warm. Pills do not appear on the surface of such yarn. Aran yarn is technologically close to the wool from which old village knitted items were made.
Made with a special stretchy type of knitting. Suitable for any head size.
Inverallan's production is split between their own factory in Alloa, just north of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and one of India's finest hand-knitting factories, with good working conditions and a responsible attitude to the environment.
Suitable for both men and women.
