Terracotta Brown Tam O'Shanter Bonnet by Ye Olde Cappe /Hand-knitted Wool/

The tam-o’-shanter is the traditional Scottish beret known since the 16th century. Its modern name it got a little later, from the character in the poem by Robert Burns, written in 1790.

 

Initially, this headgear was worn by warriors. Even in our time, berets like this, although cloth ones, are a part of the British army dress uniform.

 

Every beret is knitted by hand, and washed in a special way after that. An effect of felt wool appears after the washing, and it can additionally protect from wind and precipice.

 

The beret band is made by a special stretching type of knitting.

 

It fits both men and women.
