Classic bowler hat, made by the oldest hat producer from Eastern Europe, inheritor of Austro-Hungarian Empire hat traditions, Czech factory Tonak.
Originally bowler hat was invented and made in 1850 in England by Bowler brothers for Lock & Co. Hatters. The purpose of bowler hat was practical: hat for the horse-riding in the forests and rugged terrain. Cylinder hats, which were very popular in XIX century were not very convenient for that. More compact shape which can provide head safety was needed. In next decades bolwer hats became extremely popular both in Europe and in the U.S. In 1860-1920 they were worn by people from different classes (from workers and gangsters to aristocracy). In England conservative style lovers wore bowler hats untill the 1960s and in the next decades - mostly with ceremonial costume.
Bowler hat has a dense construction, it can really protect head not only from wind and rain, but from real impacts (but we don't have test results).
Hat is made from best type of felt - furfelt. The difference between woolfelt and furfelt is grade of material. Woolfelt is produced from mixed wool fibres and furfelt is made only from rabbit, beaver and goat fur.
Today vintage style lovers are interested in bowler hats again. Bowlers combine well with both strict classics and creative and even casual looks (thanks to Stanley Kubrick's movie "Clockwork Orange").
