Here is an integral part of the traditional British menswear - a knitted Fair Isle pullover from a small family factory Jamiesons of Shetland, which produces yarns and knits only from wool of local Shetland sheep directly in the Shetland Islands.

 

It is believed that clothing with similar patterns appeared among fishermen of the Shetland Islands in the early 19th century (Fair Isle is part of this archipelago located north of Scotland) and was of little interest outside of them until the early 1920s, when a similar sweater began to be worn by the trendsetter of his time, Prince Edward of Wales (the future King of Great Britain Edward VIII).

 

The Fair Isle pullover is one of the most comfortable and versatile pieces of clothing in this style: it can be worn alone (over a shirt) or with a tweed jacket or coat.
