Traditional Aran-style knitted vest in undyed Irish wool produced by the old Kerry Woolen Mills factory dating back to the 1760s.
Aran style sweaters and vests were traditional fishermen clothing on the west coast of Ireland since late 19th century and became one of the most iconic elements of Irish clothing (along with tweed flat caps and grandfather shirts).
Aran patterns are not only beautiful, but also contain encrypted good wishes. There are several types of patterns on vests, each with its own message: ladder (health), cable (luck), honeycomb (successful work), trellis (wealth), moss (abundance), tree of life (family).
A knitted vest is a rather versatile piece of clothing: it can be worn either separately (over a shirt) or with a tweed jacket or coat. It goes well with corduroy, tweed or canvas pants, tweed caps and felt hats, English plaid shirts, knitted ties: all the elements of the British country suit and American preppy style.
Suitable for both men and women.
