The Open Road hat is part of the Stetson USA Gold Fund. A famous and highly recognizable model that combines the classic cattleman crown with medium brim. It is quite correct to say that this is a cowboy hat, slightly adapted for a city dweller.
Made in the Stetson factory in Garland, Texas, with a dense, soft feel and excellent shape, 6X grade fur felt. The number near the letter X means the category of fur felt used in cowboy hats and is associated with the proportion in which the down of beaver, mink, chinchilla, hare and other animals is combined in the material. The company keeps the exact ratio a secret, but we have come across an opinion that 6X felt contains about 10-15% beaver down.
